On
Sunday, July 9, 2000, the anti-porn group Omaha for Decency ran a
full page ad in the Omaha World Herald (page 10-B). The ad
expressed the group's support for the use
of unconstitutional censorship laws to prosecute Omaha
stores that sell porn. This ad was signed by Omaha area clergy. A
copy of it is displayed below, with the bottom
half enlarged to make the tiny text easier to read.
One of the pastors
who signed the Omaha for Decency ad is Bradley Hoefs. His name
is circled in the copy below. (Names are in alphabetical order by
last name.) Pastor Hoefs was cited by an undercover Omaha police
officer in May 1995 for exposing himself and masturbating next to a
parking lot at Lake Cunningham Park. Although Hoefs initially denied
this and appealed his conviction, he finally ended up pleading no
contest to the charge at his retrial in May 1996. He was also forced
by his then church, King of Kings Lutheran, to resign as their
pastor, and became pastor at Community of Grace Church. Even
though he initially denied it, Hoefs was obviously guilty, as he was
cited again in April 2002 by an undercover officer at Lake
Cunningham when he asked the officer to masturbate in public with
him. Pastor Hoefs thinks porn videos should be illegal, yet his
hobby is exposing himself and masturbating in public parks!
A small excerpt from the 5/31/95 Omaha World Herald article
"Omaha Pastor Charged With Exposing Himself", which discusses Pastor
Hoefs' indecent exposure charge, is displayed beneath the Omaha for
Decency ad. See also 5/2/2002 Omaha World Herald "Pastor
Faces Second Lewd-Conduct Charge" and 5/23/96 Omaha World
